Hygiene Therapy

At Queens Road Dental Practice we have a dedicated team of 3 qualified and experienced hygienists who can all take extremely good care of our patient’s oral health. Hygienist visits are an important part of the ongoing and routine care of all patients.

They are specially qualified and trained to focus on the health of gums (and with a dentist work collectively) in the prevention and treatment of gum diseases. Our hygienists can carry out the scaling and polishing of your teeth, give dietary advice and are experts at showing you on how to maintain a good standard of dental health at home.

It is essential that your gums are maintained in good condition, so part of your preventive dental care is time spent with one of our dental hygienists. As well as scaling and cleaning your teeth and giving dietary advice, your hygienist will encourage you to look after your teeth and gums in the correct manner at home.

Queens Road Dental Practice now offers ‘Direct Access’ hygiene treatment. Changes in legislation mean that patients are now able to access a standard dental hygiene appointment without the need to have a dental examination with one of our dentists.

Whilst we always advise you to have regular routine examinations with a dentist of your choice, you can see one of our hygienists for a professional and thorough scale and polish, additional gum care or cosmetic cleaning. If your dental practice does not offer hygienist care then our hygienists will also be happy to accept referrals from your own dentist.

At your appointment one of our hygienists will discuss the treatment process with you, offer their findings and where appropriate advise a follow on appointment and can also liaise with your own dentist (or vice versa) to provide you with the best oral care possible.

All new patients to the practice who require direct access to our hygienist services will be asked to fill in an up to date medical history and a consent form prior to treatment.
There may be the rare circumstance when the hygienist is unable to begin treatment. This may be due to the condition of your mouth, your general health or medical history. In this instance we may request you are assessed by one of our dentists for full diagnosis and prognosis.
